Why should I prepare physically for kiteboarding?

Kitesurfing is a physically demanding sport: your legs and core are put to the test during a kitesurfing session, especially if you’re a beginner or doing jumps! You may have noticed it the day after a big session or your first lesson: your muscles are tired, you’re sore and you’re wondering how you’re going to get back in the water today. That’s enough to justify a physical preparation worthy of the name.

But if, like me, you don’t live in a spot where the wind blows often, you’ll have to make do with a few sessions « at home » each month. Then there are vacations, where you string together several hours of sessions. The problem with this approach is that your sessions aren’t enough to build and maintain the muscles you need to kite for long periods of time, have fun, and minimize the risk of injury. Or simply to avoid the aches and pains that can spoil your 2nd day of kitesurfing in a row. « I contacted Lionel 2 weeks before my kite trip to Dakhla. I knew it was a bit « last minute », but I was really determined to improve my physical condition for kiteboarding and for the approaching ski season (I do telemark). My goal was also to lose about ten kilos.
